An urgent or ‘2 week wait’ referral is a request from a clinician to get an assessment for you at a hospital as soon as possible.
Urgent referrals are usually to find out whether or not your symptoms could be cancer, although most people who are referred are not diagnosed with cancer.
If you can’t make your urgent referral
It’s important you have your urgent referral appointment within 2 weeks.
If you cannot attend, contact the hospital or service directly. Their contact details can usually be found on your referral or appointment letter.
